"In order to achieve anything in this world, a person has to use all the resources he can draw on. And the only place to start is with ourselves and within ourselves," Banerjee said.

Once Rotarians find their inner strength, he continued, they can accomplish great things in their communities and around the world.

"Discover yourself, develop the strengths within you, and then unhesitatingly, unflinchingly, go forth and encircle the world, to embrace humanity," he said.

Banerjee emphasized the family as a starting point in serving others. "The communities we live in are not built of individual people but of families -- families living in homes together, sharing their lives and their resources and their common destinies. Good families lead to good neighborhoods, and good neighborhoods build good communities."

Rotarians can focus on projects that support families, such as those that provide safe housing or improve maternal and child health, he said.

Continuity in Rotary's work, including polio eradication, is also important, Banerjee said. "There are so many things we are indeed good at: working for clean, safe water; spreading literacy; working in so many ways with the New Generations, our youth, in our newest Avenue of Service and assisting them to become the leaders of tomorrow."

Citing Mahatma Gandhi's call to "be the change you wish to see in the world," Banerjee said Rotarians should also focus on change. more

Rotary thinks family is important as we always say “The Family of Rotary” and December is known as the family month in Rotary. During the family month, R.I. laid down some guidelines and suggestions for fellow Rotarians:

- To establish a “Rotary Family Committee” in your club in order to assist any projects or events that involve non-Rotarian ie. Family members of Rotarians.

- To have seminar and training for new Rotarians (spouses and children of new Rotarians are invited to join)

- Recruit family members like spouse and matured children to become Rotarians through various service and fellowship gathering.

- To have a system in order to track members that has missed regular meetings and encourages them to attend other Rotary events.

- Invite partners and children of Rotarian to attend our regular meetings and events.

- Encourage new Rotarians and their partners to take part in projects.

- Give Rotary Publication to family members in order to enrich their Rotary knowledge.

Build Trust
Strong families build trusting relations by following through with promises.

Show Commitment
Strong families feel like a team. They share traditions like having a family picnic on the Fourth of
July or taking walks together after dinner. Family members show commitment to the family by
making time for family events and making sacrifices for one another.

Communicate
Members of strong families talk to one another about important decisions and daily plans.
They discuss feelings as well as day-to-day activities at school or work. When there are conflicts,
strong families take time to cool down before responding. They don’t bottle up their anger or
let it get out of hand. They talk about possible solutions to problems and work together to carry
out the best solution.

Grow Through Crises
All families experience crises. Strong families use these experiences to learn and grow. They
know even bad experiences can bring about good changes and help them to become closer.
They admit problems instead of hiding them. They seek help when needed.

Spend Time Together
Strong families spend time together, talking, reading, playing games, taking walks, cooking.
Some special times involve closeness, like reading a good-night story and tucking children
into bed with a kiss.

Have Fun as a Family
Strong families know that having fun is important and make plans to have fun together. They
plan family trips or parties. Strong families know that laughter is important and use humor to
help reduce stress. Family members laugh with one another, not at one another.

Show Love and Affection
No matter what children say or do, they need to know that their parents love them. Strong
families show caring in many ways. Family members say to each other, “I love you” or “I’m
happy we’re in this family together.” They give hugs and show affection in other small ways.
They may call each other nicknames and enjoy remembering family stories.

November is Rotary Foundation Month

November is Rotary Foundation Month, a time when all those involved with Interact, Rotaract, and RYLA are encouraged to consider ways to support Foundation programs and projects around the world.

The Rotary Foundation is a vehicle for fighting hunger, poverty, disease, and illiteracy. It supports RI's efforts to achieve world understanding and peace through local, national, and international humanitarian, educational, and cultural programs. PolioPlus is the Foundation's largest effort to date, and Rotarians and members of the family of Rotary continue to play a leading role, volunteering both time and money to eradicate polio.

Many Foundation programs are also open to Rotary's New Generations program participants, such as Ambassadorial Scholarships, Group Study Exchange, and the Rotary Peace and Conflict Studies Program.

Every Rotarian an Example to Youth

In 1949, the Rotary International Board adopted the slogan “Every Rotarian an Example to Youth” as an expression of commitment to children and youth in each community in which Rotary clubs exist. Serving young people has long been an important part of the Rotary program.

Youth service projects take many forms around the world. Rotarians sponsor Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, athletic teams, centers for disabled children, school safety patrols, summer camps, orphanages, recreation areas, safe driving clinics, county fairs, child-care centers, and children’s hospitals. Many clubs provide vocational counseling, establish youth employment programs, and promote the use of The 4-Way Test. Increasingly, drug/alcohol abuse prevention and AIDS awareness projects are being supported by Rotarians.

In every instance, Rotarians have an opportunity to be role models and mentors for the young people of their community. One learns to serve by observing others. As our youth grow to become adult leaders, it is hoped each will achieve that same desire and spirit to serve future generations.

It is the responsibility of each Rotarian to prepare the New Generations —all young people up to the age of 30 —by improving their life skills to ensure a better future, while recognizing the diversity of their needs. All clubs and districts are encouraged to undertake projects that support the fundamental needs of the New Generations: health, human values, education, and self development. Rotary International’s Structured Programs for New Generations are: Interact, Rotaract, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards, and Youth Exchange.

The month of September is designated as “New Generations Month” to focus on all Rotary activities that support the development of young people up to the age of 30. Rotary clubs are encouraged to use the slogan “Every Rotarian an Example to Youth” in club bulletins and publicity material during “New Generations Month.”

Youth Exchange
Youth Exchange is one of the most popular programs to promote international understanding and develop lifelong friendships. It began in 1927 with the Rotary Club of Nice, France. Exchanges in Europe continued until World War II and resumed after the war in 1946. In 1939, an extensive Youth Exchange was created between California and Latin America. Since then, the program has expanded around the world. In recent years, more than 7,000 young people have participated annually in rotary club- and district-sponsored exchange programs.

The values of Youth Exchange are experienced not only by the high-school- age students involved but also by the host families, sponsoring clubs, receiving high schools, and the entire community. Youth Exchange participants usually provide their fellow students in their host schools with excellent opportunities to learn about customs, languages, traditions, and family life in another country.

Youth Exchange offers young people interesting opportunities and rich experiences to see another part of the world. Student usually spend a full academic year abroad, although some clubs and districts sponsor short-term exchanges of several weeks or months.

Youth Exchange is highly recommended program for all Rotary clubs as a practical activity for the enhancement of international understanding and goodwill.

Reminiscing the past...well it`s nice to rekindle some past experiences especially if those were really interesting and fun during our community participations, projects and activities last year 2007.

As we enter the Rotaract Year 2008 - 2009 let us continue develop our professional skills by lending our talents to the community. Our new projects, activities, community involvement are another challenge for all of us being a member of the Rotaract Club of Metro Surigao as we bring the one worldwide motto SERVICE ABOVE SELF.

The status of our membership as of now will not be the reason for the failure of our projects to be realized soon. Hence, this is our challange to all of us to continue stand alone for the sake of Rotaract Club. Though our club today has only 10 active members but we are still strong and have courage to show our commitment and show to the community that we are united.

To my colleagues, I personally extend my appreciation to all of you for the commitment you extended to our club.

Let our camaraderie continue through MAKE DREAMS REAL.

rac metro surigao joins nationwide celebration of Kidney Month

The entire province of Surigao del Norte joins with the rest of the provinces all over the country in celebrating June as National Kidney Month.

Carrying the theme, "25 Taong Pangunguna sa Serbisyo para sa Kalusugan ng Bato ng Sambayanang Pilipino," this year's celebration aims to increase public awareness on the importance and care of the kidneys and the prevention and control of kidney ailments.

The celebration kicked-off with a motorcade Wednesday morning, June 4, spearheaded by the Provincial Health Team in coordination with the Renal Diseases Control Program (REDCOP) Coalition Members that include Phil. Nurses Association, PAMET, ROTARACT Club of Metro Surigao, PIA, DEPED City and Surigao del Norte Divisions, PACEMCO, City Health Office, Prov'l Health Office, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Placer Rural Health Center.

PHT Team Leader and current REDCOP Chairperson, Mr. Erwin Pingal bared that various activities have been lined up to highlight the month-long observance.

Among these are the conduct of information and education campaign related to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of kidney diseases, Hataw Exercise, and screening services that include urinalysis and tests on blood sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure on June 13 at San Francisco, Surigao del Norte.

As part of kidney awareness campaign, Pingal also advises each and everyone to drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water per day and to drink fruit juices.

Kidney diseases rank as the 10th leading cause of death in the country. Last year, data from the REDCOP revealed that almost 7, 109 Filipinos suffer from End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) and are undergoing dialysis.

RADIO PROGRAM - Every Sunday's 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Real Radio FM 104.7mhz. The proposed title of the program is :GENERATION TALK that deals with our youth of today. - In addition to the program, there is also another program sponsorship from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm (prime time).
YOU GOT SERVED Metro Surigao - An inter-school hip hop dance showdown all over Surigao del Norte on February 28, 2008. The said compitation is open to all dance group. The benificiaries of this event is in the victims of human-trafficking.
APO HIKING SOCIETY - on March 1, 2008 at the Provincial Convention Center - The club will assist the mother club in selling tickets and to the venue as well.

The American Center for International Labor Solidarity (Solidarity Center) and its various partners (including ROTARACT CLUB OF METRO SURIGAO) unders its special project entitled "Strengthening the Enabling Environment to improve Response to TIP and Related Cases (STEER)" conducted the Anti-Trafficking In Persons (ATIP) Local Technical Working Group (TWG) last January 07, 2007 at Gold Room Hotel Tavern Surigao City.

The project has addressed with two (2) major objectives: a. to improve the capacity of government, NGOs (together with the ROTARACT CLUB OF METRO SURIGAO) and community-support groups at the national and local levels to generate reliable, on-th-ground information and maintain a centralized database in trafficking and related cases, including thier status; b. strengthen cooperation among government entities, trade unions and other NGOs (with ROTARACT CLUB OF METRO SURIGAO) in destination and source communities in monitoring trafficking in persons complaints and cases, documentation and case build-up, and take action including rescue, repatriation and rehabilitation of trafficking victims.

Everybody are preparing and planning to how and where to celebrate the special holiday with the family, friends, employees, and with the community our club shall spare humble services to.

To “Light-up a Tree” is one of the community projects our club has participated for the first time in Surigao City chaired by Sec. Araya Mejorada.

My sincere thanks to Dir. Shaun Catubigan for the LCD Projector that we used as Multimedia during the Club Presidential Address 2007 held at Nickel Room Hotel Tavern Surigao last November 19, 2007.

How I wish Rotarians invited us to present our activities & projects undertaken during their regular meeting. Rotarians applauded to all of us for all the efforts that we had shown as reflection of their simple deeds and success to be shared by many.

To mention a means of participation in community service such as Medical Consultations held in Brgy. Gacepan, Municipality of Sision last November 27 2007 and Brgy. Cantugas, Mamanuas Tribe at Mainit, Surigao del Norte last November 29, 2007 tapping REDCOP Coalition (Renal Disease Control Program) of Surigao del Norte in partnership with the ACT FOR PEACE Program.

Hoping other projects will soon be realized before I left Rotaract Club of Metro Surigao.

The Rotaract Club of Metro Surigao joins the Brgy. Caravan of REDCOP Coalition of Surigao del Norte last November 27, 2008 at Brgy. Gacepan, Municipality of Sison, Surigao del Norte.

REDCOP (Renal Disease Control Program) Coalition is composed of Government Agencies in Surigao del Norte which only Recognized by the ACT FOR PEACE Program of DOH. The Rotaract Club of Metro Surigao is also a member in the group, the only NGO in the Coalition.

Brgy. Gacepan of LGU-Sison has 447 residents including the 44 Mamanwas or the Indigenous People in the community. The Coalition offers URINALYSIS Examination, RBS-Random Blood Sugar taking, and the Blood Pressure taking.
The Coalition of REDCOP members are as follows; PAMET-(Philippine Association of Medical Technologist, PNA-(Philippine Nurses Association), CRH-Caraga Regional Hospital, NCIP-(National Commission of Indigenous People), PHT-(Provincial Health Team), PHO-(Provincial Health Office), City Health Office, PACEMCO, RHU of Sison, PIA-Philippine Information Agency and the ROTARACT CLUB of METRO SURIGAO.

The Chairman of the Coalition is no other than MR. ERWIN PINGAL the OIC of Provincial Health Team of Surigao del Norte. The Consultations end exactly at 4:00 pm.

Reminiscing the past...well its nice to rekindle some past experiences especially if those were really interesting and fun. Being a non-profit, non-political, non-religious international professional development and volunteer service organization of students and young professionals aged between 18 and 30. The Rotaract Club of Metro Surigao has been a strong force in the local community since our charter on August 30, 2004.

Since then, the club is so far one of the most active Rotaract clubs in the district, and we are continually looking for more volunteers in the Surigao City or neighboring areas who would like to take part in our community service projects, leadership development activities, social events, and more!

Moving on… the club today is made up of 15 enthusiastic leaders who wish to make a difference in the community.

In addition to that, the club provided the members with an opportunity to enhance knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal development, to address the physical and social needs of the community, and to promote better relations between all people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service.

What sets Rotaract apart from other community service organizations is our focus on community & leadership development. We want to help you learn the necessary skills to make the changes you want to see in the province.

Rotaract Club of Metro Surigao is a very powerful youth volunteer force with tremendous potential to make a difference in the province.

Rotaract Club of Metro Surigao offers the chance to learn more about other cultures and help promote international understanding and goodwill. The internet and email have made this easier than ever, many websites, e-groups, and mailing lists devoted to Rotaract and Rotaract clubs worldwide.

The Rotaract Club of Metro Surigao joined the International Community in commemorating the International Day of Peace – May Peace Prevail On Earth last September 21, 2007.

Just recently, the Rotaract Club of Metro Surigao has made another community project at the Provincial Jail of Surigao del Norte in line with our international activity in titled ROTARACT CARES last Saturday, November 17, 2007.

Rotaractors work hard, but we believe in having a good time too. The club also holds at least one social event a month and we often socialize after meetings and projects too. We organize dinners, barbeques, dances, sporting events, and more! Sometimes these activities are designed to raise money, but mostly in service above self!

Article 1
Name. The name of this organization shall be the Rotaract Club of Metro Surigao District 3860 Zone 1B

Article 2
Purpose and Goals. The purpose of Rotaract is to provide an opportunity for young men and women to enhance the knowledge and skills that will assist them in personal development, to address the physical and social needs of their communities, and to promote better relations between all people worldwide through a framework of friendship and service.
The goals of Rotaract are: 1. To develop Professional and leadership skills; 2. To emphasize respect for the rights of others, based on recognition of the worth of each individual; 3. To recognize the dignity and value of all useful occupations as opportunities to serve; 4. To recognize, practice, and promote ethical standards as leadership qualities and vocational responsibilities; 5. To develop knowledge and understanding of the needs, problems and opportunities in the community and worldwide; 6. To provide opportunities for personal and group activities to serve the community and promote international understanding and goodwill toward all people.

Article 3
Sponsorship. Rotary Club Sponsor :
1. The sponsor of this Rotaract club is the Rotary Club of South Cagayan de Oro which, through a committee of not less than five Rotarians, shall provide guidance and have supportive responsibility for this Rotaract club. The continued well-being of this club shall depend on the continued active personal participation of the sponsoring Rotary club. 2. The club shall include on all of its stationary the name of its sponsoring Rotary club. 3. The basis of organization shall be young men and women residing, employed, or studying anywhere in the vicinity of the sponsoring Rotary club.Where a university of other institution of higher education is located within the vicinity of the sponsoring Rotary club, the student body of each institution may also be a basis of organization. This club is not a part of, and neither this club nor its members have nay right or privileges with respect to, the sponsoring Rotary club. 4. This club is a non-political, non-sectarian organization. 5. In the event that the sponsoring Rotary club is terminated, the governor of the Rotary district will seek to install another sponsoring Rotary club; if one cannot be found withint 120 days, the Rotaract club will be terminated.

Article 4
MembershipMembership Qualifications:
1. The membership of this club shall consist of young men and women of good character and leadership potential between the ages of 18 and 30.* 2. The method of electing members of this club shall be determined by this club in consultation with the sponsoring Rotary club. The method of electing new members of university-based** Rotaract clubs shall have the approval of the appropriate authorities. 3. Each member of this Rotaract club shall attend at least 60% of the club's regularly scheduled meetings annually, provided that absence from a regularly scheduled meeting of the lcub may be made up as follows; any member absent from a regular meeting of this club may make up such absence by attendance at a regular meeting of any other Rotaract club on any day or the two weeks immediately preceding or following the day of absence. 4. All Rotary Foundation scholars, who are within the age guidelines adopted by the board for the Rotaract program, shall be eligible for guest Rotaract club membership during the period of their study in another country. * On 30 June of the Rotaract year in which the member becomes 30 years old his/her Rotaract membership will end. ** As used in this constitution, the term "university" is intended to include al institutions of higher education. 5. Membership shall automatically terminate: a) upon failure to meet attendance requirements unless excused by the board of directors of this club for good and sufficient reason or b) by termination of the club or c) on 30 June of the Rotaract year in which the member becomes 30 years old. 6. Membership may be terminated: a) upon failure to continue to meet the qualification for membership, or b) for cause, as determined by this club by vote of not less than 2/3 of all the members in good standing.

Article 5
MeetingsBimonthly Meetings:
1. The club shall meet not less than twice per month, as provided in the by-laws, at a time and place suited to the convenience of the members. 2. The board of directors shall meet as provided in the by-laws. 3. Rotary International requires each sponsoring Rotary club to designate one or more members of its club to attend the meeting(s) of its Rotaract club(s) at least once a month. 4. Meetings of the club and of the board of directors may be cancelled during holiday or vacation periods at the discretion of the board of directors, provided that notice is given to the soring Rotary club and the district Rotaract representative. 5. Minutes of the meetings of the club and board of directors shall be provided to the chairman of the sponsor Rotary club's Rotaract committee within two weeks after each meeting is held.

Article 6
Officers and DirectorsGoverning Body:
1. The officers of the club shall be a president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer and such additional' officer(s)as may be provided in the by-laws. 2. The governing body of this club shall be a board of directors composed of the president, immediate past president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, and additional directors whose number shall be determined by this club, all to be elected from among the members in good standing. All decisions, policies, and actions of the board and of the club shall be subject to the provisions of this constitution and policy established by Rotary International and its members. If university-based, this club shall be subject to the same regulations and policies established by the appropriate authorities for all student organizations and extracurricular activities of the university. The board of directors shall have general control over all officers and committees and may, for food cause, declare any office vacant. It shall constitute a board of appeals form the rulings of all officers and actions of all committees. 3. Elections of officers and directors shall be held annually prior to 1 March by methods compatible with local customs and procedures, but in no case shall more than simple majority of the members present and in good standing be required for elections. All Rotaract club presidents and district representatives who reach the age of 30 during the term of office may serve one additional year as immediate past president or immediate past district representative, to provide continuity in leadership. The term of office of all officers and directors shall be one year. No provisions shall be made for a term of office shorter than one year except with the written permission of Rotary International. 4. All incoming Rotaract club officers, directors, and committee chairmen shall be provided with leadership training form the district Rotaract committee* in conjunction with the RI district Rotaract committee.**

Article 7
Activities and ProjectsObjective:
1. Within the limits prescribed in Section 1 of Article III this club shall be responsible for planning, organizing, financing, and conducting its own activities and shall itself supply money, manpower, and creative imagination necessary thereto, except in the case of joint projects or activities undertaken in cooperation with other organizations. Such responsibility shall be shared with such other organization(s).2. This club shall undertake among its activities at least two major service projects annually, one to serve the community and the other to promote international understanding, and each shall involve all or most of the members of the club. 3. This club shall provide for a professional development program for its members. 4. It is the responsibility of the club to raise the funds necessary to carry out its program. It shall not solicit or accept more than occasional or incidental financial assistance from the sponsoring Rotary club, nor shall it make general solicitation from Rotary clubs other than its sponsoring Rotary club or from other Rotaract clubs; nor shall it solicit financial assistance from individuals, businesses, or organizations in the community without giving something of value in return. All funds raised for service projects must be expended for that purpose. *Dstrict Rotaract committee (composed of Rotaractors) **RI district Rotaract committee (composed of Rotarians).

Article 8
Committees 1. There shall be provided in the by-laws of this club the following standing committees: club service, international service, community service, professional development, finance, and such other standing committees as may be deemed necessary or convenient for the administration of the club. 2.The president, with the approval of the board, may appoint such special committees, as he may deem necessary, citing their duties at the time of appointment. All such special committees shall lapse upon the completion of their duties, upon discharge by the appointing president, or with the end of his term of office, whichever occurs first.

Article 9
Fees and Dues l. Each Rotaract club or its sponsoring Rotary club upon organization shall be required to pay an RI Rotaract organization fee equivalent to US$20 with their "Rotaract Club Organization List" hich will cover Rotaract dues payment for the first Rotary year or part of a year.2. Each Rotaract club or its sponsoring Rotary club shall be required to pay annual RI Rotaract dues equivalent to US$20 through the district Rotaract representative.3. All Rotaract clubs which fail to remit annual RI Rotaract dues shall be terminated on an annual basis.4. Any fees, dues, or assessments on the membership of the club shall be nominal and shall only be for the purpose of meeting the administrative costs of the club. Funds for activities and projects undertaken by the club shall be raised apart from such fees, dues, or assessments. A thorough audit by a qualified person shall be made once each year of all club's financial transactions.

Article 10
Acceptance of Constitution and By-Laws. Constitution: Every member of the club, by acceptance of membership, thereby accepts the principles of Rotaract as expressed in its purpose and goals and agrees to comply with the constitution and by-laws of this club, and on these conditions alone is entitled to the privileges of the club. No member shall be absolved from the observance of the constitution and by-laws on the plea that a copy of them has not been received.

Article 11
Standard By-Laws The club shall adopt the "Standard Rotaract Club By-Laws," together with such amendments as are not inconsistent with the constitution and which may be deemed necessary or convenient for the government of the club, provided that such amendments are adopted in accordance with the amendment procedure prescribed in the "Standard Rotaract Club By-Laws".

Article 12
Rotaract Emblem. 1. The Rotaract emblem shall be preserved for the exclusive use and benefit of Rotaract club members. Each member of this club shall be entitled to wear or otherwise display the Rotaract emblem in a dignified and appropriate manner during the period of membership. Such entitlement shall be relinquished upon termination of membership or termination of this club. 2. When displayed by individual club members, the emblem may be used without further information. When the emblem is used to represent a club, the name of the club should appear with the emblem.

Article 13
Duration. Duration of Club: This club shall exist so long as it continues to function in accordance with the provisions of this constitution and of Club policy relating to Rotaract established by Rotary International, or until it is terminated: a) by this club upon its own determination and action, b) by the sponsoring Rotary club upon withdrawal of its sponsorship, after consultation with the district governor and district Rotaract representative, or c) by Rotary International for failure to function in accordance with this constitution or for other cause.Upon termination of this club, all rights and privileges relating to the Rotaract name and emblem shall be relinquished by the club and by its members individually and collectively.

Article 14
Administration. Amendment: The constitution may be amended only by the Board of Directors of Rotary International and all amendments to the "Standard Rotaract Club Constitution" adopted by the Board of Directors of Rotary International shall automatically amend the Constitution.

The club has a committee that helps the club to run efficiently, organize events and fundraising and provide contacts for information. Any club member can stand for a committee post, with voting taking place in January/February. The Rotaract year runs from July to June.

President

The President's main task is to co-ordinate the club for 12 months. They are the "figurehead" of the club and represent the club at various meetings and functions. They are also the main contact for Rotary and other Rotaract clubs in the District. They must chair both club and committee meetings and attend District and some Rotary meetings. They get involved in all aspects of the club and need to know what is going on to be able to assist the other committee members if necessary.

Vice-President

The main role of the Vice-President is to assist the President wherever necessary, usually involving standing in for them at meetings. Their biggest role though is the organising of the club's Charter Night. This is the evening when the club celebrates receiving it's Charter (i.e. the Club's birthday party). There are many different ways to celebrate the occasion from formal dinner/dance to barn dances and themed discos.

Treasurer

The Treasurer is in charge of keeping the club books up to date and providing balances at the meetings. Along with the President, the Treasurer is in charge of setting the budget for the coming year and helps with the collection of club subscriptions. Each member must pay an annual subscription, set by the Treasurer and President. This money helps towards the running of the club and district. Subs are always due by the first meeting in September. If paid late there is usually a penalty. New members get three free months and then their subs are worked out Pro Rata.The Treasurer arranges the payment of any bills or expenses for the club. They must also ensure that at the end of the year the accounts are presented for audit and passed.

Secretary

The main duty of the Secretary is to take the minutes at the club and committee meetings. All minutes must be signed by the President and kept in a folder for future reference. The Secretary handles all club correspondence. At each club night the Secretary is usually guaranteed to have "Nothing to say"!

Sports

The Sports Officer's role is almost the same as the Social Officer's except they deal will sports events rather than social. They are responsible for getting together teams for any sporting events happening in the District and for organising Challenges against other clubs. They can be anything from sporting events, like bowling, darts, etc to things like chocolate eating challenges, crisp tasting events etc.

International

The role of the International Officer is to organise events on an international level or theme. The aim is to get the members involved outside of their immediate area. This can be done in several ways with day trips abroad, foreign meals or by establishing a link with a Rotaract club in another country.

Vocational

The Vocational Officer is in charge of the educational side of Rotaract, organising events with a slightly educational theme. As you can see the educational theme is very losely fitted around the events!

Publicity

The role of the Publicity Officer is to advertise the club to the public in order to attract new members and raise the awareness of Rotaract. The officer also organises things such as Displays Boards each year in the local Library for Rotary Awareness Week. Publicity is also gained from having photos and articles in the local papers. It is therefore the role of this officer to liase with the paper for a photographer to attend events and to send in Press Releases. Most Rotaract clubs have their own scrapbooks and it is up to the Publicity Officer to keep these up to date. The scrapbook holds pictures, articles, tickets, menus, etc of the events the club has attended.

Membership

The main role of the Membership Officer is to welcome prospective new members to the club and make sure that they understand what is happening. They also work closely with the Publicity Officer in organising publicity events and new members evenings. They produce the membership list and distribute it amongst the club members.

Rotaract/Rotary Liaison Officer

This officer is a member of a sponsoring Rotary Club who can come along to club nights and acts as the main link between the clubs. The Liaison Officer reports back to his Rotary Club about what Rotaract is up to and helps with the organisation of joint events. Our club has three Liaison Officers as three Rotary clubs sponsor us. At the beginning of each Rotaract year the incoming Rotaract committee meets with the incoming Rotaract/Rotary Liaison Officers to discuss the organisation of joint events and how Rotaract and Rotary will interact.

Rotary International is a worldwide association of local clubs for men and women in business or the professions. It's aims are to provide humanitarian service to the community at local, national and international level; encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and work for goodwill and peace in the word. It was founded in 1905 and has over 1.2 million members in more than 29,000 clubs in almost 160 countries. Britain has over 61,000 members in around 1,800 clubs.

Why should our Rotary club sponsor a Rotaract club?

Organizing a Rotaract club is one of the most rewarding community activities a Rotary club can undertake. The Rotaract program gives Rotarians the opportunity to mentor dynamic young men and women who want to provide service in their local and global communities. Rotarians also will serve as resources for Rotaractors who will become tomorrows parents, business professionals, and community leaders. In turn, a Rotaract club can bring new energy to a Rotary club, inspire fresh ideas for service, increase support to projects, and spread knowledge of Rotary to other sectors of the community. Rotaractors, with the experience they gain through this Rotary program, make exceptional future Rotarians.

What exactly does a Rotaract club do?

Rotaract clubs organize a variety of projects and activities, depending on the interests of the club members. However, three main areas of focus include professional development, leadership development, and service projects (both locally and internationally). Together, these areas ensure clubs have a balanced service program while providing opportunities for the personal development. It is important to remember that Rotaract, like Rotary, is diverse, and each club acquires unique qualities, depending where in the world it is established.

Is there a difference between community-based and university-based Rotaract clubs?The Although both approaches to Rotaract club organization have proven successful in various parts of the world, there are some key differences. You may wish to speak with Rotarians involved with each type of program to learn which type has been successful for them and why. Also, consider the interests of members and your communitys potential. Typically, community-based clubs are open to all members of the community who are between the ages of 18-30. They can be "young professionals" or a combination of students and professionals. It is important for a Rotarian or a committee of Rotarians to serve as the liaison between the clubs. University-based clubs are sponsored in conjunction with a local college or university. The Rotary club should work within the schools regulations regarding student organizations and extra-curricular activities. The club may need a faculty advisor, but a Rotarian liaison also is important. If there is a Rotarian on the faculty, staff, or board of a local college, that person often makes a good advisor.

Where do we find young people to join Rotaract?

Young adults aged 18-30 are everywhere. First consider finding potential Rotaractors at local community colleges, universities and technical training schools. Sons, daughters, or other family members of Rotarians, employees and interns of Rotarians, former Interactors, Youth Exchange participants, Ambassadorial Scholars, Group Study Exchange alumni, and RYLA participants also are perfect candidates. Lastly, consider the young people you know from local places of worship, community centers, and fitness clubs.

What policies does our Rotaract club need to follow?

The Rotaract Statement of Policy and Standard Rotaract Constitution and By-laws, created by the RI Board of Directors, include details on membership, club leadership and organization, fees and dues, and Rotaract activities at the district, multidistrict, and international levels. What support do Rotaract clubs receive from Rotary International?

Once the Rotaract club is chartered, it is entered into Rotary Internationals member database. Then, the Rotaract club and its sponsoring Rotary club will begin receiving Rotaract updates, the Worldwide Rotaract Directory and Rotaract News. Rotary International also provides a number of useful online resources.The highlight of the Rotaract year is the annual Rotaract Pre-Convention Meeting, which is incorporated into the Rotary International Convention. RI staff, in conjunction with the RI Rotaract Committee, plans an exciting program, giving Rotaractors and Rotarians from around the world the opportunity to join together, share ideas and discuss issues.

How can our Rotaract club make contacts within our Rotary district and beyond?

Within each Rotary district, Rotaract clubs usually implement a district structure that often includes a district Rotaract chairperson (a Rotarian appointed to oversee Rotaract) and a district Rotaract representative (a Rotaractor elected from the district). Chairpersons and representatives are responsible for promoting the program, facilitating communication, and disseminating information among all Rotaract and sponsoring Rotary clubs. Begin by contacting your chairperson and representative for more information about things going on in your district. Making contacts with Rotaract clubs outside of your district can begin in a variety of ways, but one place to start is by using the Worldwide Rotaract Directory, distributed each August by Rotary International. Each active, chartered Rotaract club receives a copy by mail. To find contact information for your district Rotaract chairperson or district Rotaract representative, request a directory, or find out about Rotaract in a specific place, contact RI staff.

How can I become a member of the RI Rotaract Committee?

Rotaractors interested in serving on the RI Rotaract Committee should have a Rotarian write to the RI president-elect recommending him or her as a worthy candidate. All committee appointments are made at the discretion of the president-elect.

Can past Rotaractors become Rotarians?

Absolutely. Rotary clubs are encouraged to view former Rotaractors as potential Rotarians and to periodically review Rotaract club membership to look for possible candidates. Also, Rotaract clubs are encouraged to develop a list of club members who may potentially fulfill a Rotary classification. Clubs also should maintain a list of past and present members, noting their particular interest in Rotary service projects. These lists should be shared with the sponsoring Rotary club.
